Had one today,
took advantage of the backwind on the 10th and hoofed driver onto the green
50 ft of twists and turns burned the hole for eagle
left a dennis wise ( nasty five footer ) which lipped out
3 stab par
stupid game :D

Apart from the short term frustration of a three putt (and the dent in the stats if you keep them) no tales on the scorecard and it simply says par.

I'm always happy with a par, no pictures on the score card and letting it get to you will hurt the holes following.

Smile about the par and forget about it, hit the next shot.

easily done, I have had a 15 foot for eagle and only got a par, worse I once had a 20 foot putt for eagle and finished with a double bogey.

A couple of years ago at Mar Hall I was putting for eagle on the 1st (par 5) and walked off with a bogey.

I thought it was erased from my memory banks until I saw this thread:)

That is thread worthy!

The fact you made a thread and called it a silly game over a par means it must have frustrated you.

Every mistake can be learnt from, hopefully next time it happens you can shrug it off and be happy with par then immediately forget about it.

Done it a few times recently, chasing an eagle. Dialled it back last week and settled for a birdie - a cowardly lag putt for the first putt.

Why settle for par when your handicap isn't based on par?

If I play a long hole against the wind that I can't reach in 2, I will try and get on in 3 and try and hole the putt. If I 2 putt its a 5. Makes no odds whether it's a tough par 4 or an easy par 5.

If I drive the green on a shortish hole, I will try and hole the putt. If I 2 putt its a 3. Makes no odds what the par is.

Stuff what the par is, play each hole the best you can and never 'settle' for par.

It's disappointing when that happens. The way I look at it would I have settled for a par on the tee.(the answer would be yes).so nothing lost.Could have been worse...
missed green duffed chip and 3 putt.

Would you have settled for par on the tee AFTER you had driven the green?

If it was me Bob then yes I would. Part of my problem last year was putting ideas in my head the par was a poor result and that somehow I should be better than that, playing off 11 I should be looking at par less than half the time. So I started beating my self up which then caused freefall meltdown in my game.
This year I changed that mind set that par is a good result, no matter how I get it, whether its driving the green and 3 putting or its a chip in from off the green for par, both good results for me. The mindset change dropped a heap of pressure and I dropped 1.8 shots off my handicap.

Its all personal but thats my take.

OOPS, I thought it was bad enough that I once had a 4 putt bogey. Long uphill putt for eagle that I went after and put it 4 foot past, nasty down hiller that I sent 6 foot past, lip out and then a tap in......
