Morning, I can not hit hybrids , it is without doubt me and not the clubs. Was wondering what 3 irons people had gathering dust, as I would like to try one and see if I can hit that instead.

Cheers

Midnight. ..

Before you start worrying about 3 irons, think about now well - or otherwise - you hit your 4 or 5 irons. If you hit these ok then you may be alright with a 3 but it won't be any easier. Although long irons are getting more user friendly you won't find many bags with one.
What goes wrong with your hybrids...?

Mate,

at the moment my 4 iron goes great, I have loads of confidence in it. Don't get me wrong I know that they way I hit it could change and it might be sent to a dark cupboard.

I think I just have no confidence when hitting Hybrids , spent a bit of time with someone who showed me how to hit them , but for me I still top and thin them and even when I hit them proper they go no distance at all.

this obviously isn't happening.

how where you shown how to hit them. there are two schools of thought. the sweep like a fairway wood or the hit like an iron. hit like an iron is probably your best bet if you are thinning and topping.

I have no doubt that my hit proper is not the correct way , I was shown the sweep like fairway wood , will try the other way next time.

I have a Rocketbladez 4 iron kicking around. Lofts are cranked so might fit the bill, but I reckon that working on hitting down with your hybrids will reinvigorate your game.

Taylormade tour burner 3i, fitted with xps300 and golf pride your velvet grip, plus complete with the original burner regular flex graphite. 4 rounds old at most, £25.00

why not get a 3 iron in your set if you are hitting the 4 iron well?

I must admit I find hybrids like cheat sticks they are so easy to hit, must be your technique- hows your 3w off the deck?

I was always shown to hit them like a 5i, rescue/hybrid clubs are not designed like an FW, but more like an iron with a big head. So hit them like one, because I bet you do not get on very well if you try hitting your irons like A FW.

There are definitely different styles of hybrid that 'need' different styles of hitting. And definitely some folk who haven't found the hybrid that works for them - and maybe never will!

Wilson actually had a line of 'Fybrids' that indicated what style to use. While some hybrids are iron-like, the Burner hybrids look/play like FWs.

I have an original Rescue Mid that I, indeed, swing like a 5 iron - though with results from more places. I used to have a small-headed 17* Adams that tended to be best if 'swept'.

But if you can get used to the swing required, they cam turn out to be very handy clubs to have in the bag!

just an aside but since you've gone to the good ole US of A your handicap has dropped from 6 (wasnt it) to 2.8 in months. Phenomenal playing, you must love the weather, well done.

Cheers for all the advice dudes. I will stick with it try to hit them like a iron and see how I get on. Thanks also for offers of 3 irons.

Next the quest to find a hybrid that I am comfortable with as the one I was given is prob to good for me or I am to bad for it :)

I don't have one to offer, but I'd recommend the Mizuno fli-hi long irons if you end up still wanting to try one.

Should be able to pick up one of the older ones for £30-£40.

FWIW I hit my hybrid like a fairway wood

As an aside have never got on with hybrids, I prefer irons or fairways. Tempted by a MP-H5 but think I will stick with the 7 wood
