I've got a tournament coming up at my golf club. 3 clubs and a putter.
I'm going to go with 3 hybrid, 7 iron and a SW.
what clubs would you choose to take?

got the same next week, probably going to go hybrid, 7 iron and PW, may switch hybrid for 3 wood if were off the whites but expect were off the yellows

Regular question and here's my regular reply...
Base your clubs on your par 3 holes, even if that means 6, 8 and PW.
Don't worry too much about the longer holes - 3 x 6 irons will get you close to par 5's in regulation and a combo of those irons will get you on to any par 4 in 3 as well.
If your par 3's are all a similar distance then go with a longer club to get a bit more distance off the tee on the longer holes.

Many moons ago we used to have a 3 club comp without the additional putter. It was played after the captain's day comp and was over first 7 holes. I won it once using 1iron, 6iron and 9iron. Shot better with 3 than I did with 14 for those 7.

played it a few weeks ago.

went for driver, 7iron, sw putter.

I regretted taking the sw instead of pitching wedge in the end up. I did get to 8feet on the par 5 3rd in two hitting two drivers. missed the putt!

pffft, might aswell call it a half set. 3 clubs only is a better idea.

the fact our course was sodden ruined the shot making element. this game would come into its own in the height of the summer or on a nice dry links.

We have the same comp on Tuesday and have been debating my choices. Think I'll go 4 wood, 6i and PW. The 6i will just cover the Par 3's and the 4 wood gets good distance on the long holes plus pretty tidy from the fairway. We'll see!

If you have a lot of bunkers and they are tough, take the SW.

If they aren't too bad or not very numerous, consider a gap or approach wedge, which will still get you out of most, is good from 100 yards in and gives you other options in the bag.

I went AW, 8 iron and hybrid 3 and a putter. Scored 31 points and made two poor errors of judgement.

We play this every year and normally go hybrid, 7 iron, pw. Changed it this year to 3wood, 7 wood and 9iron and won and also scored my lowest round of the year. Rest of the clubs must muddle my mind.

we have one that 3 clubs one must be a putter, so i take 23 deg Hybrid and 9 iron.

one year i took driver, SW and did ok tried the same next time but forgot I had put a much stiffer shaft in the driver in between.... not so good:(

19 degree hybrid, 7 iron, PW.

My old club used to do a 3 club challenge and I usually went Hybrid, PW, Putter. Some brave souls dropped the putter and added an extra iron. I really liked the competition as you had to think and improvise.

One of our Seniors scored 49 points in a 3 club and a putter competition a couple of years ago. Much better than he normally scores with a full set of clubs! :mmm:
