Hi I an a new member here and at my golf course (first round tomorrow). I have heard the term 2's pot in regard to club competitions but do not know what a 2's pot is yet. 😊 Thanks in advance

The 2s pot is an extra fee - usually optional - that you pay over and above the normal entry fee. It gets paid out, shared out between everyone who scores a 2 on any hole.

They work differently from club to club. At ours it is £2, it is optional, it's run by the pro and so winnings are credited on to your pro shop account. Elsewhere they could be a bit less, might be paid in cash etc.

Be aware of the 2's pot, you could be throwing money away. I don't do it anymore. A chap in my pro shop last week how many balls he got for his two last weekend, the answer from the pro '2 ProV's'. Great says player, they've cost me £18!

That post has confused me ?

Why has winning a two cost him £18 ?

Is your two pot different ?

We all put a pound in and then the money is split between all the guys getting a two

Ours is optional, costs £2 and is run by the Pro.

Entire pot divvied up between all 2s and is usually £10-12 per 2. However one of my mates got over £100 for one a few years back as his 2 was the only one in the comp that day!!

Previous Pro did a sleeve of balls but I think money into your account is a much better deal and on a tricky weather day potentially a lot more lucrative.

Over the course of the season he's paid out £18 in two's entry at £2 a week, only won 2 balls. £9 each.

But he might have won more. I've, twice, won over £70 for having the only 2 on a rough day. Typically, I'll have at least a couple of 2's a month - £4 invested and earned >£20.

Surely that's the same as every w/end comp .... unless he also wins every club comp he plays. You can't get upset with anyone but yourself that you don't win on the two's every week.

I guess the point of the two's is that even with the most dreadful round that has no chance of winning a price for overall score you can still pickup something for a birdie on the Par3's

Ours is only a pound. Get quite a lot entering so winning becomes worthwhile. Money goes on card to spend in bar or pro shop. All part of the fun and means you can still win something even when you've otherwise had a bad day. Bagged a couple in a comp last year when there were only 6 in total which, as the late Geroge Cole might have said, was "a nice little earner" :D

But thats the case all over the country

How many times has he paid an entry fee and not won ?

Being blunt the only reason he hasnt won more than two balls is because he himself hasnt got enough 2's

It's too like gambling for me. Wouldn't recommend entering unless that's your thing.

I don't mind comp entry fees, gotta cover costs of putting it on.

2's helps generate a few pound/euro for the pro shop aswell ..

2 quid a week to help keep the shop facility going , 1 win every few week gets you ur cash back ,, win win win .

I read it it's took him 9 comps this year @ £2 a go and when he scored a 2 he got 2 balls.
It's just a bit of fun and still gives you something to play for if your year has gone.
Not to be used as a way to profit IMO, like any gamble be prepared to lose your money.

i always thought 2's were divided amongst winners. Certainly our are 100% amongst winners.

Comp money has a small % taken for running costs but not the 2's

a lot of places do the 2s sweep through the shop and buy balls or pro shop vouchers from the pro with the money rather than paying out cash, obviously pro makes some profit on the balls

Our's is £1.50, all money shared between those getting a 2, a hole-in-one gets half the pot, monies paid out on to Pro-Shop account.

Ours is £1 entry, run by the resident Pro.
All money in, paid out amongst those getting a 2.
Winnings added to your account, to be spent in the pro shop only.

I don't even enter ours anymore, due to him trying to ( rip me off ) pull a fast one last season.
( but that's another story )
Also , his prices are all at the top end off RRP.........some even above that.

Currently trying to use up my remaining credit.
Bought a Taylormade brolly for my son, £40.......then seen it days later for £27.99 in another local shop....!!
