2nd Hand Car Buying

I've always been quite lucky in finding bargins out there, and I am currently finding it hard to root out the next one. The price of second hand cars has rocketed, and the mileage on them?????? Good Lord!!!! Have they been to the moon and back?????? I thought I'd got one. Went to see it last night. "Immaculate" it was not. 2004 Avensis. "bought for his mum four weeks ago, who didn't like it" 4 Michelin tyres put on...not new. Scratches on body work. It had only done 61K.Full service history. Nothing on last MOT. Washed before I'd got there. He wanted £1700, got him down to £1500, but something just didn't sit right. Was I right to back out?

Its got a full service history and only 61k miles on it.

Just what are you expecting to find for £1500?

Back out if its dodgy but to be honest I'd hazard a guess you're being a touch unrealistic...

What did the mileages on the MOT say ? It usually lists last 3-4 recorded mileages.

Something doesn't quite sit right from what you've said, I'd have walked away as well

I took nothing on the last MOT to mean nothing wrong with it i.e. no advisories, not no mileage recorded.

£1500 for an 04 avensis is a bit steep as well.

My 2003 BMW 330d Sport has only been valued at £1,500. One owner from new, FSH, Full leather, Xenon headlights, new tyres and shocks. A tad rusty in the front wings but a common problem with E46s.

Lots of problems over the years. I've got an Avensis, which are supposed to be bomb proof, (and mine is), the only problems on MOT's over the years have been wiper blades and exhaust. the one I checked had megga rust problems amongst other things.

My 05 Avensis - the 2L diesel T Spirit version (so got bells & whistles) with 77k on the clock been valued at £1100 with which I'd be happy if selling. So £1500 or £1700 a bit steep I think
