The far, far bigger issue than the tragedy itself was the way in which the "establishment" at every level (police, local authority, government and even the press) closed ranks to make this look like the victims were the cause. THAT is contemptible Mr Ingham.
I was going to post about this but I'm not going to say very much as last year when I did I got a lot of abuse. Suffice to say that many alive today never experienced the visceral, gut-wrenching horror of that day - either at the ground, listening on the radio or watching on TV (as I was). But we should never forget.
My thoughts go out to my friend and the other 95 who passed away on this tragic day!
will not be long until the family of the 96 get the justice that they have been fighting for so long for.
People also seem to forget it could have easily been us United fans in the ground that day and no matter what rivalries we have the whole country needs to stand firm and be one great team!
Sorry to hear about the loss of your friend, Matt.
You've probably read this before, but if not, here it is, from an Manchester/FC United fanzine:-

that is the 1st time I have read that quality stuff and 100% spot on ! I was at the Forrest cup game and the ball did cross the linebut was not at the home game when the semi was played!
I was fortunate enough to be given a ticket for the cup final in 89 and was one of the best games I have ever been too and I include the champions league finals with United! Not just for the football but also the warmth and passion from everyone in the ground! It was the only time mind I have supported liverpool in a cup final though
on on a side issue just read tonight that the Bradford Fire may have not been an accident :
