2016 Rio Olympics

Over 100 scientists have written an open letter to the WHO saying that the Olympics should be moved from Rio or postponed over the Zika virus. Can the IOC justify ignoring this advice and will athletes start refusing to go which will inevitably devalue the event if some of the top names aren't there.

There's no way the Olympics will not go ahead as planned. Too much money involved. I think the athletes will go regardless, it's their whole life leading up to this.

I'm afraid this is my feeling also, there was some novelty value last time being in this country, but Brazil no. Shame really as I recall enjoying elements of it when I was young before drug taking scandal became the primary headline associated with it. Overblown overhyped and just too big? Any decent sport has its own world championship and doesn't really need to be part of it.
Its the way some of these UK 'athlestes' constantly bemoan that they cant get any funding to partake in some obsucre sport nobody watches or cares about like weightlifting or bmx or sailing, and that somehow we all owe them a living to excel in dull obscure sports.
For me I can watch a few athletics events - 100m, 4 x 100m and 4 x 400m and the last couple of laps of Farahs distance events.

Where are we in the medal table??....... Ooooh 4th.......aren't we all wonderful......Pllleasse!

I love the Olympics - for me it's the best sporting event - get to see so many different sports that arent normally televised and it produces some of the best sporting moments in history

How can over 100 people write a letter? Do they write a word each or does someone write it all and the others say "OK if you shut up for a minute I will sign your bloody letter"
