2015 US Open course - best potential Major 2015?

You could be right. Think il back someone steady and accurate for that kutch?zach johnson?

Looking forward to all the majors this year. Hopefully rory has a good year again and rickie fowler

Rory will be a fav no matter what, but with his lenght and his driving accuracy and short game improvement from 120yds and in, it would be a brave man to bet against him for the US Open this year.

Alternatively it could be a real bore-fest watching the best players in the world hack out of shin-high rough because they've missed a 10 yard wide fairway.......

I remember watching a bit of the U.S. amateur and liked the look of it. Peter Uilhein was in the final if I remember. Think he lost though. Must check wikipedia

Edit: He won! Beat David Chung.

Is this not going to become a borefest? Watching tour pros hacking it round is no fun and surely a course that long is just going to be a case of which big hitter keeps it in play best. The greens will be like concrete and the fairways 3 foot wide. The US Open has never been my Favorite.

Looks like a great course. The Open Championship and the U.S. Open are my favourite majors. It depends how they set the course up, but, imo, with this course, they have the chance to create a true spectacle.

I much prefer this type of course to the usual bore-fest type courses that the pga tour usually throw up....typically with a par 3 over water at 16/17 and a par 5 finish over water.

Cant understand anyone who thinks watching the worlds elite on a challenging public course could be a borefest, seriously. Maybe a nice parkland soft course with wide fairways, easy greens and the winner -28. Now that is a borefest to me

+1

I hear you brother.

And to me.
But what's wrong with setting up a course that rewards good play with a birdie chance rather than a chance to save par..?
Its the US Open - rough will be up, fairways will be narrow and players will have to hit irons if they want to stay on them. Greens will be so fast that there will be putts flying off back down the fairway.
The USGA don't seem to like their Championship being won with a score better than par for some reason. With a par 70 course of over 7700 yards they won't have to trick it up by much to get everyone over par. That, to me, is as big a bore-fest as Target golf and a winning score of -24

but remember its a hard running links in warm weather- remember Rory driving par 4's over 400yds last year? It's the elite of Planet Earth, it should be challenging, they all have the game for it and I for one relish a challenge and a creative shot maker over the automatons on the regular PGA inner tour. This is a public links course as well, Joe public plays it week in week out albeit not set up for the US Open.

So its hard running....makes it even more likely that the highest fairway in regulation stat will be in single figures unless the USGA have "normal" width fairways.
If people are happy watching huge wads of rough being gouged out after every drive then feel free...its not a spectacle that floats my boat.

I agree...but, at last years US Open (pinehurst no2) there was no rough firm greens and it was a great tournament. A proper thinkers golf course which rewarded imagonation. Hopefull the US PGA keep this in mind and as you say, not have too much heavy rough.

we are polar opposites which I respect- you like lots of birdies, I like creative challenging golf. You maybe are unfamiliar with links golf and the rough. Each to their own.

The USGA have been working hard to improve the U.S. Open in recent years, trying to ditch the boring 2 iron off the tees at dull courses with 20 yard wide fairways. Chambers Bay will be nothing like that. It will be firm and fast and will reward players with great nerve as well as great play. Europeans might do well. I think the USGA is doing a great job even if some of the U.S. TV audience don't get it.

I've never said that I like lots of birdies - that's just as boring.
Make it challenging by all means - it is a Major after all.
But, as I said, reward the creative shot with a birdie chance. Rewarding that creativity with chance to par doesn't fill me with the need to watch.

np, I misunderstood (read to fast). We probably like the same things but just packaged slightly differently.

Guess so.
I've just seen so many US Opens won by the least worst player or the one that makes least mistakes rather than the player who takes his chances when he's been able to create them

And me.
i think all the majors should be tough and be won on level par or there abouts.
these are the best players in the world and should be able to play any course in any conditions.
