yes its friday and yes i'm bored! after nearly shelling out £110 on a golfbidder auction i grabbed hold of myself and have come up with the following brilliant plan....

Having started playing back in June i had about 4 lessons and played 2 to 3 times a week over the summer. I improved dramatically. Since then though my game has fallen off somewhat and i'm desperate to get to a more competent level.
i have a target of my 30th on the 22nd Jan so i'm going to -
Lessons - x2 per week for the next month
After which my swing should be more consistent/better so i can treat myself to a visit to Titleist or Callaway fitting centre for the following (depending on what they suggest!), ready for use on the 24th when i'm at the Belfry for my birthday :)

I'm not sure you'd call it plans. But I am hoping to play a bit more golf. With the missis just starting i'm hoping to be able to practice a bit more as well, and maybe the handicap will start heading in the right direction again.

I'm still playing the dark horse card.

I play with my brother and father in law, both have been playing much longer and generally score better. But I'm starting to see fear in their eyes as my scores are now in line with theirs and I'm still on the learning curve.

Bring on the summer so I can get out in the evenings.

thats it, i've got loads of time to myself over the hols with the bird having to work most weekends etc. so hoping to make huge strives with lessons (5 booked over the next 2weeks) and give them a shock when we play again next... which is at 5lakes in Essex on the 3rd Jan which i've been told is a top course.

Mine are quite simple really. Get back into the game by playing more often and just enjoy playing (plus trying a few new courses). I know a lot of people set themselves goals such as get HC into single digits, but personally I think that as long as you are enjoying it, anything else is a bonus.

Only started to play regulaly again from June this year (10 plus year break from the game), played the odd game inbetween times.

So for me more regular golf
Get my Handicap down to 18.
Lose a couple of stones in weight

If I achieve losing the weight I will be more flexible and therfore able to get my swing sorted and the controlled power should follow along with the possibility of reaching my handicap target.

Just be careful.
My old boss at work was bloody useless at golf, but went for a course of lessons.
He then begged me to take him to Crowborough to impress me with his new found abilities.
He stood on the first tee and proceeded to have 3 air shots
:D

I am looking at joining at changing clubs so that will be my first task.

My second is to play as many different courses as possible.

Want to play a few decent tracks too. Belfry being the first in March I think.

Hey nmartyn,

The equipment all seems like a plan but if I was to offer to pieces of advice they would be the following:

1. Stay away from the Pro V1 as you are only starting out. The ProV1 is a much softer ball that will spin more in the air which means that any slice spin or hook spin that you have on the ball will be amplified and be much greater than for example the harder Nike ball that you also listed. The harder ball will allow you to hit it straighter!

2. If you are committed to improving then feel free to get lessons but don't overdo it. I teach golf and I have several clients that come on a weekly basis which is ok but if you have them too frequently then you will struggle to go away and practice what you have learned. I would suggest that you have one per week and instead of having a second, hit the short game area or the putting green for a few hours! You'll see quicker results that way!!

Enjoy practice!

Sebastian welcome to the forum, bery wise words of advice there.

I have had a quick look at your website and notice you are attending Q-school next year. Impressive CV you have too.

Sure you will be a great attribute to the forum, always nice to have a pro knocking about. What club do you play/teach out of?

I hope your not disapointed like I was. Thought the Belfry was a distinctly average golf course, great hospitality but the course was a great let down in my opinion.

Gotta play it to find out, They have an offer on for £50 to play brabazon but tempted to play the PGA instead. Depends what others want to do, Prob be the Brab just to say have played it.

Pigmeister I cannot believe you said that.

When it was first layed out The Brabazon may well have been described as a potatoe field, even Peter Alliss will admitt at the time it was, mainly because someone made one heck of a muck up with the soil & grass used. Though this was put right. And with the changes its gone through over the years & the way such a young course has matured.

Oh...If anyone wants to see what a potatoe field really is then they should play Sinfin in Derby.

Although there are 2 famous holes there are a lot more quailty holes on the brab, the 6th and 11th are great holes also the approach to the 3rd,the only bland holes i can rememeber is the 1st and 2nd,its one to play but i might be easily impressed as i aint played many top courses

cheers Seb - point taken with the balls, will stick to the harder variety from now on.
lessons wise, got one a week booked in for the next few weeks, first one went pretty well on saturday and i followed it up with a round on my own afterwards, played 2 balls and did pretty good. main change was my takeaway and trying to get me to bring my club away from my body when it reaches horizontal. needs more work though cos it was meant to correct me slight slice but has worsened it!

what i really need to work on is my short game, its so inconsistent its unreal.
