further on from strong grip thread does anyone have 2 different grips for different clubs?

I am getting Iron lessons at the moment and the coach has weakened my right hand only- it's probably close to neutral if on the slightly weak side.

It's still a work in progress as I am still push blocking and push fading iron shots but it's to work on getting hands ahead and into better impact position (and lose my chicken wing) so I do feel I am going in right direction with it and trying my best not to revert back to my old grip and swing.

However said grip is just so unmanagable with driver- I am easily losing 30 yards- sometimes more with this grip and driver. With this grip I was struggling to get over 220 yards- most falling 200-210. Back to my old grip and getting back to my normal 250 with sometimes creaming a longer one 260-270(for me long not forum long :-D )

So does anyone have 2 grips for different clubs? I really like the idea of one swing for all clubs but there's no way I can get most out of driver with that grip.

I struggled with the chipping yips, so went double overlap to take the right hand out a little more. it works and I dig less under pressure. the driver wasn't so effective never felt stable on a full swing.

Jim Furyk uses it with all clubs to stop him hooking it :)

kinda like most likely a couple of different things as a root cause

my take - wouldn't advise a different grip hold for iron shots to metals to driver (maybes a different grip hold for short game specialist shots - such as needing a real bunch height out of traps or extra height if short sided so looking to play flop shots)
but different grip for driver maybes metals then change for irons is not for real goin to be tenable just will to lead to more issues goin forwards

thing to consider is the driver swing is different from the irons due to set-up & swing intentions - the latter not being the same for driver to irons with the AoA's

the impact position with a driver is not the same to that of the irons - you try to handle drag the driver handle a bunch forwards so 'really leading' then the face will always be 'open' to some degrees - never goin to be able to square the face up - if you also add to that a real high hands/handle delivery as well so a more vertical shaft with the hands forwards that's goin to make it even worse - with the face looking well to rightfield - combine that with an in to out swing direction through impact & you get those shot results/issues

at home just get your driver & simulate that kinda impact conditions by pushing the hands forwards & also raised up out from the body to be able to see what that does to the face at impact

has your Pro talked over the shaft angle being presented at impact any at all - lot of folks I see with these issues are delivering the shaft at too vertical angle by having the hands on a path thats both raised up & moving out away from them

record your swings driver & irons from the dtl viewpoint & then compare the shaft angles at impact to the shaft angles at set-up - ball park would be looking at the angles at impact with driver & irons from dtl to be only a tad higher than the shafts were at set-up - if as is real possible from what you describe with shot issues then likely the shaft angles at impact are goin to be a good bunch more vertical at impact (hands both raising up & working out to the right away from you)

should that be the case you'd need to be looking to deliver the hands/handle to impact both a good bunch lower (also nearer to you) & also moving leftfield on the arc through impact

impact with a driver hitting balls off a tee - optimum the hands/handle shaft & club face are goin to be pretty much inline (level) with one another when looked at from face-on - while at impact with an iron the hands/handle would be a tad in front of the club head when viewed from face-on

People actually grip a driver differently to there irons to allow for poor swings  No wonder you lot believe the average golfer should drive the ball 200YDS and 200YDS only... Your all hackers

I use the same grip throughout, but I can understand someone wanting a different grip for driving as I do find driving quite a different kettle of fish to hitting an iron, say. Your set up is different, ball position is different, angle of attack is different... it's probably not the end of the world if you grip is different also.

All they talk about is how the reverse putter grip and claw was for yippers, now its the correct way to level the shoulders out 😱

If it works go with it, if its broke change it 👍
