If playing 2 competitions on the same day, 1 a medal and the other an open competition at a different club, do you cut your handicap for the 2nd round if you score well in the first round?

I am aware that 36 hole competitions at the same course usually keep handicaps the same but wondered if this was the same when the comps are unrelated.

I would say so.

Last week, I had a four under round in our Seniors Club Championships and I played singles knockout match early the next day. The result was out for the champs but not cut info so I cut myself to 13 as I thought I would lose 1.2. That meant I gave one extra shot to my opponent.

I think you should always cut but not increase your handicap until posted.

As Bigfoot says, yes you must apply a reduction if you play better than SSS - from what you say you are highly unlikely to know CSS.

A little tip in case you have to self reduce. Make sure you know your exact handicap as that is the number you should use. If you are off, say, 16.4 and you know it, that's what you use. If you're off 16 and don't know your exact handicap, you will have to reduce based on 15.5.

Basically unless the 2 rounds are connected within a single competition you just follow the requirements to reduce your handicap in line with score and SSS until the competitions closed and the CSS is published. At that point your handicap is as advised - until that point you reduce if appropriate.
