Hi all

wondering if you can help a novice organiser out here. I've volunteered to organise a 9 hole team comp. two teams of 7. I'ts more fun than serious and I'd really like to have a take on a Ryder cup theme. I've got two 5 hcapers that I'm selecting as captains to have a scratch singles match then I'd like the other 6 in each team (range of 10-36 hcapers) to play in foursome type format. I'm thinking each player tee's off, pick the best then alternate shots from there. What do you think? How would I figure out the handicap of each pair over nine and what would you say should be the minimum number of drives for each player over 9?

any help would be really appreciated.

cheers.

That would be greensomes then, not foursomes.

Handicap, keep it simple half combined........ or if you want to get complicated there's a chart on the EGU website for calculations in greensomes.

Your "foursomes type" match is greensomes. Which I think is played off 7/16ths of combined handicap. To take the easiest example, you have a 16 and a 32 forming a team - combined is 48. 7/16 of that is 21. So for nine holes, half of that is 10.5 rounded to 11. But because it's mostly a social thing, it may be easier to keep the maths simple, and just stick with half combined handicap.

Edit: beaten to it...

this, and you don't need a maximum number of drives because the other guy will have to play the second shots ie both players contribute equally regardless of the number of drives used.

Fantastic, thanks very much for your replies guys. That really helps me out. Much appreciated.

I'll go with Greensomes using half combined as the pair's handicap.

Cheers!
