Tomorrow afternoon I have my first round as a member at carrick knowe in edinburgh. Not had a handicap for over 10 years. Hoping the golf gods will be good to means I will play as well as I did last weekend at cardona.

Off to the local driving range for some pre round warm up, chip a few balls, smash some with the driver and hole a few puts.

slightly nervous as I don't want to cock up my first tee shot...

Having not played comps for a while and not carrying a card for some time I put my first new handicap card in last week to get my handicap back, easy par two put par on the first, topped the tee shot for the next hole in the water.... don't worry about it, they are going to take the best of those three cards and make it your handicap so you can put two duff ones in.

The card I put in last week, I crushed the ball all day long (well not the 2nd tee) and hardly scored a thing, put it in anyway, what will be will be, and that is hard to say as I want to get a low handicap but what will be will be and ill just keep quiet about it until it is what I want it to be.

Have fun and you will play well... or something...

I recently got mine, did 3 cards in 25mph winds from the back of the competition tees. I've only been playing 2 years and never with a card in my hand, I was mega nervous and played 3 bad rounds first hole par 4.....7,6,6. My first tee shot went o.b and second rested against a tree so had to take an unplayable, did well to get a 7. Just feels good to get it over with, I got a handicap of 17 so I'm looking forward to the bandit jibes, just need some competition experience and it should fly down.

If your having a bad hole just calm yourself with the thought it will be rounded down to a double bogey. I was hoping for a handicap of 10 / 11 maybe a bit ambitious for someone of my experience. if your goals are more realistic, you will play with less pressure which can only be a good thing.

I was getting my second card done last weekend and waiting on the first tee. One of the guys in the group infront hit his driver about 40 feet in the air but straight up about 10 yards and behind a tree, re-teed it and then hit his second with the same trajectory but backwards! That was a nerve settler for me.

Nice. If only everyone playing in front of me could be so obliging!

So first card is in. 102 on a par 70 course.

have a few shocking holes. My first hole was an 8, topped the drive(neves) and then took 3 puts. 2nd hole I topped the driver oob.

From there I stuggled on, with a a few pars on the 3's hit a ball into a a water hazard and also chipped my ball out a bunker into my trolley. So 2 unplanned penalties.

achwell, next card is next week. Time to relax with a g and t ;)

One of mine was 101 and I ended up with a 17 handicap so you never know. Relaxing is easier said than done to be fair but I played my first comp today and shot 84 so I know my 3 cards were affected by nerves.
