Apart from the versatility of different lies, what would you expect to see different in distance, ball flight, off the tee, carry distance etc between these 2 clubs.

Higher flight with the fairway, more carry, easier to launch
Low lofted fairways can be trickier to launch
Swing speed can be a large factor - 18° hybrids generally need a healthy swing speed to make them work

5 wood would be longer in length and therefore should go further. a 5 wood will also have a bigger face.

a hybrid will be easier to hit from the deck and tend to launch lower.

Cheers for that, why does the hybrid generally need a healthier swing speed?

depends on which clubhead and shaft, perfectly feasible to have either to be built high or low launching and if shaft length if kept similar shouldnt be much difference in distance (albeit stock 5 wood maybe slightly longer)

ultimately which head suits you then get it specced to achieve what you want

a fairway will spin more and give you a little help. with a hybrid you really need a good strike to get the ball on the face. also by virtue of a fairway having a bigger face i find i tee it higher than a hybrid which will obviously help it get airborne.

my friend has a ping 15 degree hybrid. blimey thats one difficult club to hit

I've had low lofted hybrids and they give me no more distance than a 21 degree hybrid, that's my optimum loft for distance with a hybrid, the 5 wood is a good 20 yards longer, fwiw ss with driver low 90's if that helps

I have a hybrid with 19 degrees loft. It is my favourite club, so easy to hit, usually goes straight as a bullet.

Although I don't get consistent distance with it, can go anywhere from 180 to 220...not sure why!

Pah, that's nothing. I can hit mine anywhere between 10-190. I proved that point on Sunday in a medal 😟. Boy it feels good when it does the latter, less so when the former.
