Hi all,

I played my first round of golf yesterday and shot 108 which isn't great I know. But I played in the pouring rain and we could barely keep hold of our clubs it was so wet.
In fact my mate who plays off of 10, actually let go of his driver and threw it 10 yards in the bushes.

I hope the next round I play will be in the high 90's.

I've always wanted to play golf but time and money didn't allow me. But now I'm here to stay.

108 is a good score in the dry, its a blinder in the wet for a 1st round. You can be well happy with yourself.

Welcome to the forum.

Thank you gents.

I very nearly landed a few pars so there is some hope.

Strangely, I can hit a PW 140 - 150 yards but I can't do it with any other iron.

My driving is quite good down the range but was terrible yesterday.

I have a lesson on Wednesday which will hopefully help.

Welcome to the forum ! :)
I see you use Titleist AP2 irons! What do you think of them,? i am thinking of getting a set in a few months time! :D

Yeah they're really good. Although to be honest, I have nothing to compare them to.

I have to say that the Ping G15 driver is brilliant. I tried a few different drivers out and the G15 is certainly the most forgiving. And when you catch it right it really does go.
I can drive 290-300 yards at times down the range. Just a shame that I couldn't do it yesterday on the course.

I would guess either you are thinning your PW or your contact is good but you lack confidence in other irons.

My PW distace is about 110 (47*) for a flat shot with no wind. It goes pretty high and stops real quick.

I guess yours flies a bit lower and rolls out a lot.

Do not worry, play to your strengths and the scores will come down quicker that you expect!

Welcome to the forum :)

That's a great score for your first round, and in the rain too.
You must have a pretty fast swing to get those distances. You need to teach your mate, 10yds is a poor effort for throwing a club. :D

Thank you all for your kind responses, it gives me some needed confidence.

I'm playing again on Friday so I'll let you know how I get on - it's on different course though.

Going back to 'Region's' comment, I don't think my swing is that fast to be honest. In my assessment last week, the pro said my arms are too big and they'll affect my swing.
I do a lot of gym work and have 17" arms, so I'm thinking of cutting the gym down so it helps my swing.

My comment was a bit tongue in cheek really, although 290 with range balls is very long.

You don't have to be massively strong although good core muscles help a lot. Speed and technique is the key, as no doubt your pro was suggesting, but it sounds like you have a good start.
