Spent £178 at Tesco's yesterday and that was just the pre Christmas food shop, have to go back later in the week for the fresh food.
It wasn't that long ago that £180 was a years golf subs.

Bloomin Heck... Other than the obvious, what exactly is a pre Christmas shop

I have both sets of parents ( mine and hers ) plus my brother and his family and her sister and her family plus another brother for Xmas - first food run bill - £184. Next run is Sunday. The best news is I'm on shift Xmas day so won't even be there to eat the bloody turkey !!

I hope your using the local shops and not trying to save money in one of those big supermarket jobbies. :p ;)

All the meat from a local butcher and all the veg from a farm shop ;)

Yeah security can be quite lax in these wee shops :D

(please don't take offense obviously only kidding, but just couldn't resist ;) )

I'll have your hubcaps if I see anymore cheek you fecker :D

We spend over £140 a week in M&S, £135 is for buying alcohol, biscuits and cakes.......the rest we fritter away

I think there is a tendency for us to live in the past though with regard to prices and inflation. Remember the old joke about your grandad buying a new suit, a week in Blackpool and fifty pints and still had change of a sixpence? Problem is, I don't think UK mainland salaries have gone up in the same fashion... mind you my first wage was £70/week and my first pint of beer cost 70p!

I think I can count on one hand the number of times I have spent over £100 on a supermarket shop [normal stuff]
I feel really sorry for the parents wandering around with loaded trollies.

I have got the supermarket shop down to a fine art. First thing is not to take my wife with me as she loads the trolley with expensive and unnecessary items. Last week I headed to Asda after work, had the shopping for a week for 2 people done in 20 minutes and spent under £40.00.

If I am cooking the Xmas dinner (only once every 3 years) it does cost considerably more but managed to offset that by grabbing a free trip to France with my parents last week which meant that the wine stocks were built up at a fraction of the cost.

This year we have my wifes family and my dad and sister for xmas dinner...18 people.I've seen the shopping list and we're going to Asda on Sunday am.I've suggested we ask for financial donations...as much as I'm happy to host, we're looking at £400+ for one days food/drink...the rib roast and 2 turkeys alone from our local butchers is £130.

It's enough to make you weep.

My eldest daughter has a children's art business.
She and her family are working at a posh hotel for three hours at Christmas lunchtime keeping wee kids happy.
In return she is getting paid and a free weekend full board.

For me the best way is to leave HimID at home. That's why I do my shopping online with Ocado with the odd visit to a supermarket. No way on earth am I going to a supermarket at this time of year:eek:

I just get what I need , £178 just for one day and more to come , you feeding an army or just the kids .......................EYG
