Listening to Chris Evans show on way to work this morning they started their Children in Need auction with four places in the BMW Pro-Am at Wentworth next year - the winning bids to play with GMac and Luke Donald - one guy paid £101,000 for a place

What's the most you've paid for a round of golf?

Probably about 80 or 90 quid abroad where I was not able to use discount web sites and the such like I do in the UK, just wanted a round of golf at a course nearby as I was on holiday and also had to hire clubs. In the UK, excluding golf holiday packages around 55 quid for 36 holes at Sherringham, which was worth every penny.

About £55 IIRC

Was worth it though, I have yet to be disappointed by any expensive course I have played at, not that I have played that many however...

€100 for a pro am .

never again . greatest waste of dosh ever , ok i appreciate the pro's are playing for prize money but that prize money is supported by the ordinary hackers like me that pay to play with them . so you should at least be polite & friendly as ya go around
Won the longest drive on the day and won a box of chocolates which i never actually received , (prob just as well)

Oh dear sounds like you had a bad draw. I've only played one pro am, august just gone at Woburn the senior tour event before the senior masters and it was a cracking day out the pro despite trying to work on a couple of things was very jovial talkative and helpful totally the opposite to your findings.

Most I've paid was £250 for Eagt event at Birkdale

£101,000 that's fantastic as its going to children in need. They raised £310k for the package

Most I have spent on one round was £135 for Royal Lytham and £139 for a day at Woburn inc lunch. I don't think either was worth that much.

The whole package included The Sunningdale Old Course, play at the BMW PGA Pro Am at Wentworth with Gmac & Luke.
followed by dinner at the PGA gala plus full hospitality pass for the rest of the tournament .

Worthy cause, but out of reach for 99.9% of the population

I think it worked out about £165 to play the Stadium Course at Sawgrass a couple of years ago. It was worth every penny imho. An amazing experience.

£145 for Royal Birkdale for me - on the steep side but it was a one off. Happy to hear about the 101k given that it went to a worthy cause - I just hope that it isn't tax deductible.

If I had the money I would pay that

Most I have paid is £500

For a 3 ball at Royal Liverpool

12yrs ago, £110 for Old course is the most I've paid, also 10yrs ago Royal Lytham to stay in dormie house for 2 nights 2 rounds breakfast and evening meal £245 which was great value and experience as well, but cheapest for top class course was Royal Birkdale on 2 occasions £20 with member, and £45 for playing in their Birkdale Goblet.

£225 for a day ticket at Sunningdale or £195 for a single round at Kingsbarns.

Both very expensive but both very very enjoyable.

This actually annoys me a little bit, as sad as it is! It's a great prize etc, and the proceeds do go to Charity, however, the chance of any 'normal' person being able to win it are slim to non-existent.

Would a competition style not have been slightly better? Advertise it for a couple of weeks, £5 donation per entry, and then draw a name out of the hat. Then, maybe, some normal folk actually stand a chance of winning something like that

As for the most expensive round of golf I have paid (excluding Pro-Ams) is £80 for Hoylake.

There is loads of comps throughout the year for people to enter for rounds at top placed

They do it every year on Chris Evans breakfast show. It's like the dirty dozen car thing he does each year. I couldn't afford the opening bid let alone what the final bids are. For a broadcaster that goes out to the masses it's strange of them to feature an elitest competition so heavily. As you state a competition with a set entry fee that's affordable would be a better option imho.
