Can you have a local rule that determines the route in which you play a particular hole? For instance, stating that you must cross a stretch of water twice, with two separate shots.

Cumbria! Play Silloth and Carlisle. Not a resort solution but two good courses.

Agree with this. Carlisle is the easy choice.

New Malton. Played a couple of years ago and couldn't tell rough from fairway when stood on the tee. Or from half way down the hole for that matter.

Good course not sure about the club. Consider Rushmere as an alternative - usually in good nick and good membership (at least it was a few years ago).
