From my perspective I’m not convinced there have been much in the way of distance gains in the last 10 / 15 years unless you were playing with the wrong driver setup.
I used to play with a Ping G5 driver but fancied a change. Went for a fitting telling the fitter that I was hoping to gain 20...
The only part of the above I’d question is that “ anything else isn’t worth buying if you want to stay dry” - IMO nonsense.
Ive spent many hours in the mountains in persistent rain with a trespass jacket at a fraction of the price and stayed dry.
I can echo the above, many years ago I remember standing on the first tee thinking that I could actually miss the ball.
I just tried to concentrate on SLOW and SIMPLE, I went on to shoot a 73 or 74 gross, about 4 or 5 shots below handicap.
