It's fairly simple really:
He's missed the cut, got a grump on,
Got plastered in a bar somewhere,
Got himself into a bit of a "situation",
Come off second best,
And is now trying to cobble together a completely farcical story to try and cover his tracks.

No chance of playing at my place as it's been shut for the last 3 days. And with more rain forecast not much chance of playing at the weekend either. Hey ho, life is life.
I thought as well as front, middle and back the Garmin S1 watch also has a 'measure your shot' function too. In which case surely setting that to 0 from where you hit your shot from and then walking to where the ball has either pitched or ended up will give you the yardage.
My advice, dont go into a this with preconceived ideas as to what's the best set of irons for you. Hit as many as you can from a variety of manufacturers and you'll soon work out what you like, and more importantly what you don't. You'll then end up with the right set of clubs for you, and not...
I try and stick with a set of irons for 5-6 years, and to be fair the nike pro combos I currently have are quite simply the best set of irons I've ever had, easy to hit and absolutely gorgeousl. However there is new golf "tart" on the horizon soon in the form of nike vapor blade and pro combos...
Handicaps are, as you undoubtedly know, are split into 4 categories. If you want "mid handicap" surely halfway between cat 2 and cat 3 gives you the "mid" range?

Here's my (publishable) two penneth:
A: course set too tough i.e. Tough pins and penal rough which coverts ultimately into lost time searching for balls.
B: tee times too tightly spaced,
C: too much "sky sports" - members fannying around unnecessarily during a round,

If you've got your requirements nailed I.e you have your essentials and desirables list sorted then really over and above that I'd be looking at:
Boiler, Windows / doors, kitchen and bathroom.
Wouldn't be put off by dodgy decor as that's just cosmetic and easily fixable.
Also be subtly...
DB,
I would have replied to this earlier but my crappy internet connection got the better of me. I believe at the moment Virgin piggyback onto the T-Mobile network which at times can be more than a little iffy in terms of providing a decent signal. Like you i've been tempted into joining...
I've been waiting for them myself too. They're now up on the PGA Website.
