    USGA Quiz Question (Ref# 689)

Thanks I agree Steven's post #5 is good. It is somewhat true that the original ball became a wrong ball the instant the substituted ball left the player's hand. However, it is more like the original ball became a ball in "limbo" (my terminology). After dropping, the original ball (although...

Matchplay 4 ball playoff hole - new day

See response from Rulie on Jan 11: "your match was suspended by mutual agreement (Rule 5.7a), and Rule 5.5c says, "If a match is stopped by agreement of the players and will not be resumed on the same day, the players may practise on the course without restriction before the match is resumed."...

    Teeing Area Questions

"The" teeing area is important. It is the teeing are of the hole being played. All other "teeing areas" on the course are part of the General Area. See Definition "Teeing Area" Note also that "the putting green" is the putting green of the hole being played. All other putting greens are part...

    USGA Quiz Question (Ref# 689)

There is a big difference between a Wrong Ball and a Wrongly Substituted Ball. It's nuance but important. Your score can never count with a Wrong Ball, for example. Your score can count with a wrongly substituted ball (with penalty) IF it is not a serious breach.

    USGA Quiz Question (Ref# 689)

Regarding the query. It is a serious breach because he played from a wrong place that was a long way from where he "should" have played under the rules (the tee of #18). It is not in comparison to where his original (unfound) ball was located. The location of that ball is irrelevant when...

    Not exactly. :-(

    USGA Quiz Question (Ref# 689)

This situation requires careful attention to each component and many are not intuitive. Not all of the explanations are exactly correct, IMO. The first "problem" is that he dropped a ball under an inapplicable rule. You cannot take "unplayable lie" for a ball that has not been found. Even...
