Just a quick update... replaced the circuit board that the speed/ on / off button plugs into and it's working perfectly now... thanks for your help

Ah apologies.. when I said the knob, I actually ment the whole on/off electrical and rotary speed switch being replaced..the plastic button is a very good fit on the shaft...I did try just rotating the shaft without the knob but it unfortunately made no difference.. circuit board is on order so...

The reason I've replaced the knob is because all the info online says speed selection problems are due to it being faulty or damaged.. first two were very cheap eBay ones, so decided to try a genuine motocaddy one.. alas they didn't really make any noticeable difference..it's slowly getting...
