Papaferri
Played summer golf in my teens, as had many interests. Drifted in and out of it through my twenties and took it up again as a frequent activity around 5 years ago.
I'm now 62.
I don't actively pursue competition golf, but enjoy 3 rounds a week with friends and family, just trying to nibble away at my handicap, which reached a best of 15.2 and has plateaued at 18.
I discovered that YouTube destroyed my swing. So I took lessons. I was told I had a good golf swing and was shown the data to support the pros view. I was told to stay off youtube as most pros attempting to have you swing like them. There is no single recipe for success. This feedback immediately improved my golf.
But my perfectionism produces negative swing thoughts and leaves me frustrated with the resulting inconsistency of striking. Well meaning friends become pros attempting to give unsolicited advice they are not qualified to give. I now say, "you don't hear my inner monologue, as that's the influence on a swing that looks like it needs fixing". Trust what you have, focus on the target and commit! That's my new moto.
Investment in the skills for high level golf needs to start when we're young. Otherwise we should stick with what we have and focus on the short game, putting and course management for improved scoring and a wee bit more joy!
