Play the ball as it lies. Unless you DEFINITELY know a rule to get you relief.

If your in a rabbit scrape ( abnormal ground conditions) and a tree interferes with your shot to the green then as you say you must take a penalty shot to get relief. However if you make your intentions clear that you are going to chip the ball sideways and the tree does not impede your swing...

The G3 for that price is very good value. I was interested in getting a G3 but ended up with a G5 as I found the G3 screen too small. You will certainly get much more info. on the G3 which is very helpful when you want to know distances to hazards (or to carry one).

Stan Utley ( Short game Guru ) recommends using the leading edge for chips and the bounce for pitches. He says using the bounce of the club gives you more room for error. Believe Phil Mickelson has mentioned this also.

On a competition day if you tee off early you take about 4 hours, teeing off a couple of hours (or more ) later it can take up to 5 hours!
