Yes , I change my grip for chipping and short pitches, instead of thumb right of centre ( which sends my chips to the left of where I want it to go ) I place the thumb in the centre of the grip or a little to the left side with the leading edge of the club square to target.

Have you tried Brentwood golf course ( formerly known as Weald park ) ? They are spending a lot of money on the course and its a nice parkland type course.
cranham golf course is nice and it's also very playable in winter when a lot of the other courses are a bit boggy.

The other thing you could try is to flare your leading foot out by 30 degrees, this gives your body a better chance to turn through to the target in the follow through.
