Played Valderrama at least a dozen times. Played around Le Golf National Aigle (Ryder Cup course) half a dozen times. Very different challenges but of the 325+ courses I have played those 2 are the stand-out toughest. However, I would always fancy scoring more stableford points around LGN than V.
Las Ramblas is like driving a car down a narrow winding country road at 40mph with your eyes closed. No doubt if you’ve played it a few times you get a bit further before you end up in a ditch.
can’t see how you can judge the difficulty of a course based partly on strength of the wind or how heavy the rain was. Extreme weather conditions create memorable experiences and can make the simplest of courses unplayable.
Nearly. Valderrama “is.” Played it many times. joint toughest course with The Aigle at Le Golf National. Very different challenge but for beastliness, I cannot separate them.
GB&I Rye springs immediately to mind
Obviously committees need to understand the nuances of the new rules/guidance (the latter having more discretion) but there seems to me we may be over-egging the paranoia re players manipulating their handicaps. There are one or two exceptions, but 99%+ of players stand on the first tee hoping...
Continuous Handicap Review was supposed to address the declining player - our h/c comm had 2 x cat 1 members, 3 x borderline cat 1/cat 2 members, 3 x cat 2 members and 1 cat 3 member. Trying to float any discussion about giving a lift was an uphill struggle.
We had a Pro revert to amateur status last year. With county blessing, he submitted 3 cards from +1.5 (our then lowest club h/c) and shot around 2 to 3 h/c - which would be about the right level for his current golf. The old system gave him +3.5 - county have bumped this to EG - it remains...
So pleased to have stepped back from h/c committee in Nov last year. Having listened to the constant moaning from single figure golfers that they cannot compete vs high handicappers, I produced and posted on the h/c noticeboard a simple table summarising (by handicap categories), % winners of...
I said “It seems...” from what is being said here. But as I posted, my home club has markers with insufficient ground to play 2 club lengths behind in an attempt to extend the length of the course. The county accept the measured length.
Accept/agree all of that. It seems there are many clubs bending on this one and some county reps complicit. There is in truth very little harm on the specifics. But this doesn’t speak well as to the integrity of the game and there is the whiff of hypocrisy - those same committees are picking...
Wow, the most I have managed is 41 qualifiers in a year. 60 or 70 Impressive! I have 80 or so scores on my EG app for 2018-20, showing a low of 4.1 (very brief) and a high of 8.2 (very brief). I’ve been fairly consistent under old system at 6 with the odd forays into 5 and 7. I’m not sure WHS is...
Agree. And if everyone is cavalier with the rules what harm is being done. Almost none in truth. But it does then make it subjective as to what other golf rules you choose to bend.
