    Is this unusual?

My nephew at age 9 went very close to an ace on a 90 yard par 3 at our local par 3 course on his 1st or 2nd ever round. Hole in 1’s are possible at any standard of golf given that most players can reach the green in one. I’ve had a few tap in 2’s so while I doubt I’ll ever hit one it’s not...

    What is a sport?

When I did A Level Sport Studies many, many years ago we did a module called the analysis and classification of sports. It looked at 3 major things that an activity required to be considered a sport. 1 it is competitive- there is a winner, a loser and a means of differentiating between the 2...

    Stroke Index 18

    Stroke Index 18

All of my birdies…ever, have been on par 3’s and 4’s. I’ve only ever managed, at best, a par on a par 5. I know where I’d prefer the SI to give me a “theoretical” shot.

    Crazy green fees?

I baulk at the cost of most courses. I just cannot justify to myself or my game most green fees mentioned here. I play a local 9 hole costing me £7 a round. Open when many other clubs were closed or soggy through the winter. I would love the idea of playing some of the prestigious courses...

    Not that I'm complaining but...

I would assume this is due to the fact that once you are off the tee and a reasonable distance down a hole the ego is a lot more satisfied than hitting 2 9 irons the same distance. The former probably feels a lot more like “golf.”
