    Membership Quandary

A few questions and thoughts that may help or just cause more confusion. What is the difference between the new club and your current club? What is making you think of moving? What's the thinking behind the weekly lessons? I assume you are struggling with the desire to get better and where...

    Short Game Thoughts

Ping did a relevant study on this about a year ago. Basically the data showed that generally the better wedge players tended to have steeper angles of attack, and equally importantly the angle of attack remained fairly consistent through the ball, which lead to a tighter dispersion on the ground...

    My Swing Speed Journey

Questions I would ask: Can you really hang with your mate? I don't mean that in any derogatory way, just with irons he may well prioritise accuracy over distance, and so when comparing "like-for-like" say both of you maxing out, do you still keep up? Do you observe any interesting patterns...

    The hype around caddies

Does it only boil down to this? Are you saying shooting 68 once is the same as averaging 68.2 over 10 years? Better, is not the same as easier. For example, how would modern golfers cope with slower older style greens? How would the players of the past cope with lightning fast modern greens...

    The hype around caddies

You can't just focus on one variable in this comparison, and assume 2 other variables cancel out, as it is not that simple. What about course condition, strength of field, length of career just to name a few? As an example, even if being fitter doesn't change a players scores, but allows them...

    The hype around caddies

To me this is like thinking it's weakness to hire an accountant to deal with your finances, a lawyer to deal with your legal matters etc... It just makes business sense where possible to delegate tasks to others who will do them well and probably better than you, so that you can focus on what...

    My Swing Speed Journey

Do you think it is purely holding back, or doing what is necessary to put the ball on a somewhat square club face?

    LIV Golf

The thing I find most strange about Rory's comment is not that it may or may not be meant as a dig, but that he finds the move to 72 holes peculiar. Whilst you don't need to have a 72 hole tournament to be eligible for ranking points, it is accepted that the number of rounds is a factor in the...

    LIV Golf

I find it fascinating hoe emotionally invested people from all sides get on this. Not being particularly attached to either side, I don't see this as the downfall of LIV, it potentially has the opposite effect. If LIV get ranking points for their tournaments, then it basically turns into a...

    My Swing Speed Journey

He was fast (in the big scheme of things) without training, he is just starting with fitness. For someone with no fitness background, and who self admitted doesn't like the gym, this is exactly how I'd expect him to start off. At some point he will have to move on to more advanced training...

    My Swing Speed Journey

What do you find surprising about that? I don't think the video shows enough to know what his routine is, but given he is starting from a low baseline in regard to fitness, and he has said before he lacks motivation to go to a gym, to me this seems like a fairly obvious place for him to start.

    Shot tracking systems/watches/tags

Sure individual shots can be randomly distributed, but they would still be within your normal range. I'm suggesting most golfers normal range for a given shot type excluding the odd outlier amazing or terrible shot is consistent and narrow enough enough that your weak areas will always be weaker...

    Shot tracking systems/watches/tags

The data said that, or that was your perception? Even if backed by data, there likely would have been a trend over the long term as to where your strengths and weaknesses lie. It is possible you are completely random each round, but that is statistically speaking very, very unlikely.

    Shot tracking systems/watches/tags

They don't, but I also don't use these systems to measure my shots.

    Shot tracking systems/watches/tags

The club distances are useful for obvious reasons, it makes me more confident with club selection, especially when needing a minimum carry, or wanting to not reach a hazard. The other data helps me know what to practice, to improve, so I guess indirectly yes it has lowered my handicap. Without...
