It’s common practice at Muirfield for a 3 ball to play 2 games of foursomes as only 2 balls are allowed. It may be different for public tee times but certainly applies for the members.
The advantage is it gives plenty of time for 36 holes after coffee with a wonderful lunch between the two...
It was a problem I came across at an Open last year - I only knew my marker as ‘Fred’ and had no idea I would be required to know his surname when inputting my score on HDID !
Fortunately he was entering his score just in front of me and I happened to look over his shoulder and noticed his...
We have a friendly mixed Greensomes - ladies and gents pairs - next week.
As the Scottish Golf App can’t handle this format I’ll be calculating handicaps using a calculator!
I know it’s 60/40 but wonder if it is acceptable to use rounded CH (which includes CR -Par) ?
TIA
The first round is not practicing - both rounds are the same competition so only practice/play before the first round is not allowed .
This is the same as this Friday at the masters - players finished their 1st round then played their second round almost immediately afterwards (in some cases).
The boards are pretty much redundant now - most golfers in U.K. have an app which has a facility to look up your CH for any course from any set of tees.
If playing in competitions the software calculates it and golfers are no longer required to enter their handicap (any if the 3 variants) on...
The Scottish golf website allows you to look up any players record - you’ll need to know a competition they have played in - and can then access their record from there. I think you can also search for a player and access their record that way too.
I always keep a card for myself as well as - either marking a f c’s card or entering both scores on the SG App.
If scores are done by card I always check my card against the one recorded by my marker on a hole by hole basis.
When scoring via the App it checks that both scores returned for each...
‘Playing information from the current round’ - does this include distance of last shot ( as available on my ShotScope and my SkyCaddie?
If so it seems a bit odd as I can legally know the length of a hole from the tee - I can legally know how far there is to go after my tee shot:hence I know my...
Here in Scotland the App works it out for you if it is a club competition- if not most of us have calculators on our phones!
If it’s just a friendly we use rounded CH.
I suspect the same applies throughout U.K. and NI
I suspect the intention is to end up with the. Same handicapping rules worldwide. At least we don’t have MLS like the Americans - I’m sure that was wide open to abuse!
I’m sure I recall a few years ago the rough was cut back at Yeovil to speed up play as lots of balls were being lost!
I wonder if the new policy will attract/retain members who may find their rounds become a struggle rather than enjoyment?
That was one of the factors why I left my previous...
