We'd like to take this opportunity to wish you a Happy Holidays and a very Merry Christmas from all at Golf Monthly. Thank you for sharing your 2025 with us!
It’s quite noticeable in our Seniors friendly matches (4BBB)that the home club has a distinct advantage.
We have several instances of losing away 6 -0 only to win by the same score in the return match!
Under the old CSS system you’d almost always find that the away CSS was at least 1strome...
Clubs already have the ability to create divisions in competitions to split ‘abilities’ - we have 3 for men’s and ladies and 2 for senior men’s. For info we usually have about 90entries for our senior men’s.
Regarding drawn competitions x- this wouldn’t work for us as their sheet is full from...
We use the Scottish Golf App and I’m pretty sure you can’t submit your ‘card’ without putting something in the player and marker boxes.
If I remember next time I play - snow here - I’ll try to finish with at least one of the boxes empty
That sounds logical to me as in effect B has played a wrong ball.
However I’m sure one of our rules gurus will advise if it is covered by ROG.
I recall if the correct ball had been played and went OOB or was lost then the other player plays the next shot
I played a course with one and there was a red line about 6 feet short of the wall so you could either play it as it lay or take a drop under penalty.
Elsewhere the wall - also called a ha ha - was an integral part of the course.
As an(other) aside I believe they were used to stop cattle moving...
Presumably this should be stated in the LRs for the course?
I’ve played a course (Buckpool) where it’s the course side of a ditch rather than the hedge beyond which is the OOB line
Played with a chap in an Open last year who said out loud on 1 hole “it’s 130 to the pin- playing 140 due to the slope”.
I pulled him up and he said he’d had his laser set to slope since he’d had it - for several years. He didn’t know it was against the rules so I do wonder how many laser users...
Most of us do enter our scores hole by hole on the SG app - very few if any take a card with them although that facility to register in the pro shop before and enter scores in the clubhouse after is still available
When the Earlier Scottish Golf App - VMS - was in use that had a live leaderboard which I found interesting and useful - much like the tour players have. It’s one of the functions I miss from the DotGolf app SG now use
A course up here had a rule on one hole that only irons or hybrids could be used due to an irate householder adjacent to the hole.
Only problem was I was playing a competition with pros in the field who could hit their hybrids further than my driver 🙄
I also thought it was outside the rules of...
Playing partner if mine lost out in that scenario
Last group out- came into clubhouse to enter score - several in the queue waiting to enter theirs - went for a beer - Secretary comes into bar and announces results - my mate complains as he’d come second - secretary refused to re-open comp...
Why can’t you get the host club to treat it as an individual Open?
I know it will take some time for them to enter the CDH numbers into their system -but if you visit the same clubs every year it’s really only a major one-off job.
I’m sure the host club are grateful go for the fees you pay them...
