I've been to two, including St Andrews where they played 2 rounds in a day. Obviously not slow then. Usually they get round in the same time as men's pro tournaments.
I've watched the Women's Open and other tournaments in person many times and never noticed the pace of play to be slow. As others have said, it's more the course and the conditions.
