I've been over to Reddit and (being more left leaning) they're almost to a poster totally embarrassed at what's going on and are full of praise for the European team. Seen quite a few posters hoping Europe continue the hammering.
Sadly this was no surprise to me either. Mix in the usual US jingoism with a rowdy NY crowd and throw in Trump, the politics of Trump and an area of NYC that voted heavily for him, and you have an explosive mixture.
